Green thinking

The planned changes in Building Regulations in 2010 continue the Government's intention to reduce energy consumptions in buildings as part of it’s overall commitment to carbon reduction. As a result, the creation of sustainable buildings is, or should be, on the agenda of anyone involved in development.

In line with our core values, Scott Brownrigg  believes truly sustainable buildings can only be achieved through a fully inclusive and collaborative approach.  Design must be considered as part of the process that influences the sustainability of the building and needs to be driven by the entire project team, from developer and occupiers’ facilities management, to sub-contractors.

To date, Scott Brownrigg has worked on a number of projects that seek to raise the profile of environmental concerns and the accessibility and relative cost effectiveness of green features. This has included submitting information to the DTI and enabling clients to achieve funding for resource saving features such as solar panelling.

We believe that sustainability must be a practical attribute, neither bolted on as a series of clever accessories nor so over burdening or complex that it makes the building impractical.

Where clients require a sustainable approach careful consideration is given to the project details as a whole.  Layout, concept and detailed design are all reviewed to take advantage of proven suitable approaches. We are pursing strategies and designs that allow for sustainable architecture incrementally. Use of materials and systems that inherently make the building less dependant on unique resources or large quantities of energy are avoided if possible or at least minimised.
