Green thinking

The recent introduction of Part L regulations and Government grants for the use of new technologies as well as research into sustainable construction provide the obligation as well as the incentive, to think green from the initial design phase of a project.

A sustainable approach looks at all aspects of the design procurement and construction process, optimising the approach to provide minimum impact on the future of economic, environmental and social terms.

Scott Brownrigg believes that a truly sustainable building can only be achieved through a fully inclusive and collaborative approach.  Design must be considered as part of the process that influences the sustainability of the building and needs to be driven by the entire project team from developer and occupiers' FM to sub-contractors.  Sustainability must be a practical attribute, neither bolted on as a series of 'clever accessories' nor so over burdening or complex that it makes the building impractical.
