Newham BSF
Scott Brownrigg designed and delivered two schools for the Newham Building Schools for the Future programme as part of the successful Newham Learning Partnership team.
The design for the new school has been heavily influenced by the dominant form of the Edwardian Board School building and the very cramped nature of the site. We were determined that the new design should not only unite the disparate buildings on the site, but that high quality external spaces should be returned to the girls for social and sports uses.
Working closely with educationalists and ICT partners we reorganised the layout of the whole school and used the new build element to create a spacious heart from which radiates the various learning communities. Being a specialist Languages College particular emphasis has been placed on the Languages Cafe which encourages community use in a space that is very accessible to those not normally used to using educational facilities.
