Lancaster House, Osterley

The Grade II listed Lancaster House, an imposing four storey college building was designed in 1866 by John Norton and PE Massey. The building, a good example of Victorian Gothic Revival,  was purpose-built as teaching facilities and residential accommodation for staff and students.  Scott Brownrigg was commissioned to prepare designs to convert Lancaster House and the adjacent grade II listed George Little building into 84 luxury apartments ranging from one bedroom studio units to three bedroom apartments and townhouses.

Lancaster House forms part of an 8.15 hectare site, masterplanned by Scott Brownrigg to include 282 new-build apartments and townhouses, a sports hall, running track and multi-purpose pitch, viewing banks and an ecology corridor. The historic building defines a large area of formal open space, previously inaccessible to the public. The scheme redefines the setting of the listed buildings and creates a new ‘avenue’ which frames and re-instates the long-lost view of the elegant west elevation tower.
