The Chapel, Whitelands Park, PutneyDetailed Planning and Listed Building Consent applications has been submitted to convert the Grade II listed Chapel by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott to a single luxury residential unit. The scheme proposes an exciting contemporary design, whilst respecting the important ‘volume of space’ of the Gilbert Scott Chapel. Proposing sleeping and living decks will create a dramatic internal layout and optimise saleable floor space, yet they do not bear on the outside walls, hence minimising the impact on the historic fabric. Dining and kitchen areas beneath will have a more intimate feel, whilst modern glass balustrades and a new glass and steel spiral stair will allow the original ‘volume’ to be perceived.
