Bedfordshire County CouncilThe proposal is for new council facilities forming part of the regeneration of the derelict Britannia Point site, adjacent to the River Ouse in Bedford town centre. Scott Brownrigg’s masterplan creates a new civic quarter with riverside gardens and an activity-focused piazza. Buildings are designed to demonstrate the openness and efficiency of the local authority, with welcoming entrances servicing the offices, civic centre and county archive. Key features of the design include a flexible use civic function suite; BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating; low maintenance and running costs; excellent value for money; commercial development comprising office and residential uses to help fund the project.
