Job Centre PlusAs part of the Government’s Job Centre Plus programme by the Department of Work and Pensions, Scott Brownrigg was commissioned to design new office and training facilities at Acton, Cotlands Road, Bournemouth and Seven Kings in Ilford. In Bournemouth the design responds to the curved nature of the restricted site and incorporates sustainable initiatives to achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. Environmental considerations were also paramount at the other sites with the design at Acton incorporating exposed concrete floor soffits for thermal mass cooling, which, together with external solar shading, automatic opening night vents, and a central atrium void enhanced the natural ventilation and cooling of the building.
