Crystal Palace StationScott Brownrigg was commissioned as part of our role as technical advisor to the East London Line Project to develop the Crystal Palace Station enhancement works. After carrying out a conservation study of the station buidling, our designs developed to include the refurbishment of the building and forecourt areas to restore the setting of the station. A new canopy spans the full width of the existing brick enclosing walls at platform level. Station facilities were modernised to provide a new ticket concourse and stepfree access to all operational platforms in line with 21st century rail industry standards. This also helped to maximise operational efficiency. This clear architectural strategy caters for the integration of all known future developments to the station. It allows the station to become a transport hub without jeopardising its heritage character or its ability to remain economically sustainable and effective as a railway station for the future.
