Arthur J Gallagher wins National BCO Fit-Out of Workplace Award

Scott Brownirigg Interior Design’s scheme for international insurance company Arthur J Gallagher (AJG), at the Walbrook Building has won the National BCO Fit-Out of Workplace Award.

The awards, which were held last night at the Grosvenor House Hotel provide public recognition for top quality design and functionality and are a benchmark for excellence in workplaces; acknowledging innovation and focuses external attention on examples of best practice.

Having secured the London and the South East regional BCO Award in April, the scheme was up against three other regional winners.

Arthur J Gallagher (AJG) was one of the first tenants of the Walbrook Building, initially leasing 70,000 sq ft in the basement, ground, 1st and 7th floor to consolidate 640 staff from three separate office locations.

The team won the project following a design competition. The winning design focuses upon the two oculus shaped atria spaces and plays upon maximizing light and views and planning efficient spaces which radiate out from the oculus shapes.

The feature of the ground floor is a special sloped faceted glass oculus meeting room which appears to drop the atrium through the building however the atrium actually stops at the 2nd floor. The oculus room is separated by an electronic skyfold wall that opens from its ceiling housing, allowing the space to be reconfigured in a very short space of time.
The ground floor has the main reception, a variety of meeting rooms and a brokers lounge, where brokers and underwriters can meet in a relaxed and informal setting. Two open plan zones adjacent to the windows provide desks for two business units.

The seventh floor comprises the client meeting and fine dining suite which incorporates switchable glass walls, allowing the rooms to be obscured and confidential at the flick of a switch. Other areas include offices and general open plan workstations, interspersed with glazed screens, graphics and staff breakout areas. The spaceplan on the floor radiates out from the oculus atria giving a great sense of space and light.

Arthur J Gallagher will also be the subject of a BCO Technical Tour taking place on the 22 October, which Scott Brownrigg Interior Design is co-sponsoring.  Attended by 70 guests from across the offices sector, the BCO will use the event to launch the 2015 London and South East awards programme.
