Scott Brownrigg to prepare Slyfield masterplan

Scott Brownrigg has been appointed to prepare the masterplan for a major regeneration project in Guildford.

The project – the Slyfield Area Regeneration Project (SARP) – is a partnership between Guildford Borough Council, Thames Water and Surrey County Council.  The area, near the River Wey, the A3 and Slyfield Industrial Estate, includes 41 hectares of brownfield land proposed for housing and commercial development together with new waste and sewage treatment facilities.

Bruce Calton, Group Director responsible for the project at Scott Brownrigg, said: “We are delighted to have been selected through a competitive OJEU process to design the masterplan for SARP. Our team has extensive experience in developing sustainable mixed use masterplans that offer new opportunities and sensitively complement historic towns.  Our expertise and detailed local knowledge will be instrumental in developing a masterplan suitable for Guildford.”

Guildford Borough Council’s Head of Economic Development, Chris Mansfield, adds: “This appointment is a significant step forward for the project.  Scott Brownrigg will produce the masterplan for the future development of this part of Guildford which includes the opportunity for a large number of new homes and jobs, local community facilities, green spaces and new facilities for sewage and waste treatment”.

Environmental and engineering company ENTEC will work alongside Scott Brownrigg to assess any environmental implications of the development proposals.

Work starts this month on the masterplan, with a public consultation on the initial proposals planned for early 2011. The masterplan is due for completion in spring 2011.
