Scott Brownrigg wins at Offices Awards 2010

On Tuesday (19 October 2010) 500 Brook Drive, Green Park, designed by Scott Brownrigg for PRUPIM, won the “Development outside Central London” category at the Offices Awards 2010.

Judges commented on the building’s architectural and design qualities, flexibility and its ability to meet specific occupier requirements.

500 Brook Drive is the fifth building Scott Brownrigg has completed at Green Park, Reading and consists of 115,000 sq ft of office accommodation over five storeys.

The BREEAM Excellent and EPC ‘B’ rated building was let before completion and proved to be incredibly popular with a very broad range of potential occupiers as an example of how proven technology and innovation can combine to produce a flexible and aspirational headquarters building.

Darren Comber, Group Director at Scott Brownrigg, responsible for the project, said, “We are delighted that 500 Brook Drive has won this prestigious Offices Award.  The brief given to us by PRUPIM was to design a building that would be a leading example of how sustainable office space can be efficiently designed and have strong presence through a holistic design approach.”

The design of the building is bold with a sculpted shape that enfolds a full height central atrium.  The entrance is a cube centred within the full height glazed façade, shaded by the oversailing roof and flanked by two opaque glass-clad stair towers.  Further staircases form external sculptural features.  These are unique in their integral structural support, using an inner string cut from a single steel tube which takes the form of a helix ribbon and won a Merit Structural Steel Award.
