125 Old Broad Street, City of London
Hammerson UK Properties Plc
This £81m scheme involved the refurbishment, extension and recladding of the former London Stock Exchange building in the City of London. The 26 storey office tower is a central part of the iconic City core that is home to the Bank of England, the Mansion House and the Royal Exchange. The surrounding buildings are acknowledged as some of the most architecturally and historically significant in the City. The new cladding to the tower is made up of seven distinct planes, each of which is divided by vertical channels. Where these planes meet, the junctions are expressed by recesses running the full height of the building, reinforcing the verticality of the tower and giving the building an elegant, contemporary appearance. The uppermost translucent panels soften the transition between building and sky.
