Ditton Park Academy in Slough is a new mixed secondary school and Sixth Form.
The elegant and contemporary designed school provides students with a high quality working and learning environment that also benefits the local community. The design consists of four pavilions - an entrance pavilion, general teaching pavilion, science, DT pavilion and sports pavilion of two and three storeys in height. The pavilions wrap around an external courtyard which forms the heart of the Academy.
Each level has a project breakout space that reflects the education vision and has allowed the Academy to create an identity within the house systems, as well as offering flexibility for the Academy to work in a number of scenarios. The first floor external facade can be used as a screen and backdrop for external performance and/or to project images onto, this can be for either updating school news or evening outdoor cinema events. The External façade is contemporary and reflective of a modern education yet sympathetic to the surrounding residential units and beautiful landscape.
The outdoor spaces vary in character and have been designed to encourage healthy, active and creative activity. Terrace seating, storage units, other external furniture and grass terraces encourage social play and performances opportunities and enable small groups to interact socially or large groups to have outdoor lessons. Deep reveals to all the windows have a coloured angled return to demonstrate the Academy branding and provide a subtle element of colour.
