Rapid Transport System, Bangkok
The initial Bangkok MRT system comprises a single nineteen station line from Hua Lamphong in the south, to Bang Su in the north. Working as architect on this construction joint venture, the transport team was responsible for station planning and the design of nine stations on the northern section of the line, together with the engineering team, led by Arup. Station entrances were an important element to integrate into the Thai environment, whilst the cut-and cover construction form the enclosure for developing station interiors. Underground spaces were planned with potential links to adjacent retail and development areas. The interiors was developed using high levels of natural stone finishes, as well as co-ordinated and accessible ceiling systems.
