Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust Intern Interview

This September, Eniola Sonusi, Architectural Assistant Part 2, joined us from the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust as a paid intern. We sat down with her to find out about her experience so far with Scott Brownrigg.

1. How did you hear about the internship at Scott Brownrigg?

I knew of Scott Brownrigg having exhibited at the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust [SLCT] annual exhibition they host. I was involved in the 2017 exhibition on Sensory Architecture. So I was aware of their long standing support for SLCT and that they offered internships. I found out about this particular internship through the SLCT newsletter.

I started the internship in September 2019 for an initial month and am fortunate to have this extended until the end of the year.

2. What projects are you working on during the internship?

I am working with the aviation team who have been responsible for a number of airports including Istanbul Airport. I have been working on a couple of high profile large-scale national infrastructure developments within the UK and within South Africa. I have learnt a lot, and it has given me great insight into the aviation sector, which I am now really interested in and am keen to pursue in the future.

"I feel that I am learning every day; it’s interesting being part of a practice and seeing how day-to-day life is within the busy studio."

3. What is your favourite thing about the internship?

I feel that I am learning every day; it’s interesting being part of a practice and seeing how day-to-day life is within the busy studio. I feel that my ability to multi-task has improved, I’ve also gained more insight into the aviation sector, a sector I have never really thought about before, so it’s all been very new to me, but really interesting.

It’s been really great developing relationships with other staff members and I have made some good friends here. I would love the opportunity to stay longer with Scott Brownrigg as I am really enjoying it.

4. What advice might you give to someone starting a new internship position?

Do your research, network and form lasting relationships whilst you’re there! Lastly, be yourself as you want to make genuine and authentic connections with everyone you meet.
