In this episode, Helen Taylor, Director of Practice, is joined by Victoria Thornton OBE, founder of the Thornton Education Trust, to explore how people access careers in architecture and the built environment - and how those pathways are evolving.

As the profession responds to social and environmental change, questions around access, awareness, and inclusion are becoming increasingly important. Together, Helen and Victoria reflect on how architecture is perceived by young people today, when those perceptions are formed, and why the profession can still feel distant or inaccessible to many.

Drawing on Victoria’s experience working to widen participation, the conversation explores the structural barriers that continue to shape who enters the profession - from visibility and representation to the cost and complexity of education. At the same time, it looks forward to the opportunities emerging through alternative pathways, new models of learning, and a growing recognition that the industry must do more to engage and support the next generation.

This is an open and constructive discussion about responsibility, opportunity, and what meaningful change could look like - not just in education, but across practice and the wider industry.
