The Brief

To transform a former clay extraction works into the largest newbuild film studio campus in the UK, and set a new benchmark for sustainable studio design. To create in excess of 1.75m sq ft new studio space with hotel accommodation, set storage, studio and a special VIP centre located on the lake.

Concept

The approach focused on the creation of four separate 40,000 sq m production units centred around a restaurant and activity zone, visually linked to two large lakes. Workshops envelop studio space, while an outer loop road provides access to supporting facilities. A public health and transport hub gives access to an education centre, recognising the ecology of the lakeside and reed bed setting.

Features

The former brickworks of Stewartby employed 2,000 people and was the world’s largest brick manufacturer throughout the 1930’s.

Today Scott Brownrigg have brought 1,850 skilled jobs back to the site through the creation of a specialist campus film studio, nestled in a valley setting between two lakes.
