The Brief

We were challenged to create a stepping stone between the main Nine Elms development and Battersea Park. The design was to respond to views across the park, embracing them and incorporating soft landscape wherever possible. The goal was to achieve urban density with suburban, private amenity spaces.

Concept

Our idea was to move away from the ubiquitous nature of London residential development. Our penthouses instead create a variety of private garden spaces that feel like an extension of the park thanks to infinity-style edge planting. The tightly controlled massing steps back to create an organic and curvilinear built form.

Features

Our artwork strategy builds upon the rich cultural heritage of this site. A collaboration with artist Nicky Hirst incorporated her artwork – inspired by the bark of a London Plane tree – into the glass manufacturing process. This manifested itself in the fabric of the building, reinforcing an intrinsic sense of place and identity.
