Today on Earth Day, and every day, we are proud to be signatories of the UN Global Compact.

It is clear that urgent change is needed to help battle the climate crisis. This requires effort from all levels, from big businesses to individuals. In recent years, we have seen alarmingly rapid escalation, the unprecedented Australian bushfires in January 2020 are one recent example of the devastating effects of global warming.

Business as usual is not good enough. Now is the time for bold collective change.

Earth Day serves as a reminder of the importance of all of our actions, and how when we all come together so much more can be achieved.

Scott Brownrigg are committed to making a difference, and believe that every project is an opportunity to protect and enrich the environment to create a better world. To reinforce this, we are proud to be one of the few Architectural Practices to have signed up to the UN Global Compact.

By signing up, Scott Brownrigg are publicly committed to meeting our fundamental responsibilities in four areas: human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. We are also signatories of the Architects Declare movement, and the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge.

These commitments inform our environmental objectives and targets, and provide a framework through which we can assess, implement and communicate our sustainable development strategy.

As architects, we are ideally placed to initiate discussions with clients and the design team on environmental and sustainable issues and advise on options and opportunities.

Mario Vieria, our Head of Sustainability, reports to the Operations Board and has responsibility for setting targets, and ensuring that these are met. These include targeting Net-Zero Carbon on our projects.

We are constantly striving to improve and develop our approach to sustainability, and to contribute to making a positive difference in the world.
