The Viola Ice Arena Wales has been shortlisted for a Welsh Hospitality Award in the Sports Venue of the Year category. Home to the Cardiff Devils ice hockey team, the arena hosts international hockey and figure skating events, speed skating and curling. It was previously shortlisted for a World Architecture News Award in 2017.

The Ice Arena Wales is joined in the Sports category by the Sophia Gardens Cricket Ground, designed by Board Director Neil MacOmish. Scott Brownrigg also completed the latest extensions on the Ground, and a comprehensive five year masterplan.

Neil holds an extensive background in sport stadia and civic architecture, having been involved with many of Scott Brownrigg’s high profile schemes over the years, including the Swalec Stadium Redevelopment, The Oval Cricket Ground, Celtic Manor Masterplan, the International Convention Centre in Newport and the Museum of Military Medicine.

Now in their fourth year, the Awards aim to showcase and celebrate the key professionals and businesses that enhance Wales’s reputation nationally and internationally. Winners will be announced at the awards night on Monday 11 November at the Exchange Hotel in Cardiff.
